The Encourager: I Give Up!

Updated: Jan 18, 2023

Giving up is so bad, right? We encourage people to do the opposite. We encourage our neighbor to keep going! We say: "You can do it"; "Giving up is not an option"; we are winners"; "we are victorious"! Right? Does giving up mean we've lost faith God or that we have finally found that placing faith in our ability to accomplish a thing has caused us more harm than good? Hmmm...

Something that I've learned is giving up is not so bad. "Give up your right to be right", as my Apostle says. Surrender so that God can truly get the glory out of your life...out of that difficult situation and circumstance. Times get to be extremely tough; and it is in these moments when we have to give up the facade of being strong, so that God can actually be our strength. It is in those moments when we say, " I need help", that we can get the help we need.

We are led to believe that being weak is such a bad thing. It's not. It is in that moment that we acknowledge that we can't do it on our own...that we can allow God and those He sent to help us along the way to intervene and strengthen us to begin again. In the Word, Paul says that God's strength is made perfect in our weakness. Admitting that we are weak and incapable of doing a thing, in those moments, is a sign of surrender. Surrender means to simply give up and to submit.

When we learn to submit...whew... When we learn to submit and realize that we need God in every aspect of our lives. We need Him to be successful in our marriages, as parents, in ministry, in our friendships, in our work relationships, in our grief, etc. We need God. So, let's change our thinking about giving up because it is in those moments we find strength and gain the help we need to begin again.

Surrending strengthens our faith; it places it solely in the unfailing ability in God. In some situations, we must take our hands off because we are only making things worse by "trying to fix it" with our "strong" selves. Let us normalize allowing God to be that strength when we don't know what to do. Let's normalize asking those around us that He has set in our paths to help us, i.e. your spiritual leaders and trusted brothers and sisters in Christ.

I have been blessed with some amazing pastors and other spiritual leaders that has been a tremendous help for and to me. When I hardly have the words, I don't feel judged or out of place when I am weak. Even when I don't feel like I have the "right" thing to say to explain where I am or how I am feeling, they understand and can help interpret where I am having had similar experiences and being led by the spirit of God.

It is so good to know that you are not alone and that God has placed you exactly where you need to be when life hits a certain plateau. God is so faithful; He is so kind! Find yourself in a place of surrender, in a place of giving up being strong in your own might. Find yourself giving up being right. God placed in my spirit this weekend that only He has the ability to stand alone. We do not have that ability, we NEED His help. What an awesome and necessary reminder! Thank You, Lord! We cannot survive without Him, yet He exist without us. We cannot be healed and whole without Him, yet He is without us. So there is absolutely no way, we can live this life without being submitted to Him, without being submitted to a house of God and man of God in order to succeed an excel in this faith journey.

Be encouraged!! I speak life over you. I speak the strength and might of God in and over your life, that you will surrender to Him, to His will, and His ability to carry you through when you are weak. I speak the joy and peace of God over your life and that it might be full! I speak victory in your giving up, in your surrender. In Jesus name! You can make it with God as your source. You can make it with God as your backbone. You can make it through your reset and your restart. There will be plenty of times that we have to begin again, but that shouldn't discourage you. We have to learn from those times, so that we can do better the next time. Refresh yourself, get replenished and get ready to go again!

Amen!
